Hey everyone! For those who don't know me, I'm Mike. I'm the Director of User Experience here at Scrapblog, which is a fancy way of saying that I'm in charge of the design of Scrapblog.com and the Scrapblog Builder.

I want to open things up a bit, and hear some of your ideas on how we can improve the Scrapblog website. When I say website, I am *not* referring to the Builder, but rather the Viewer, My Scrapblogs, Explore, Home, etc.

    What do you love?
What bugs the heck out of you?
What features would you like to see added?

We want to hear it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly!

    Hi Mike!

    Here's my dream list:

I'd love, love, love to be able to arrange my friends... I currently have 583 friends, and locating one is just about impossible! I'd like to keep my closest friends in my first few pages, for easier access.

A better way to access the FORUM... something really bold and obvious!

A better private message system! I never know if someone has left me a message. unless they leave me a comment telling me so! It would be nice if we had private messaging available on our "My Scrapblogs" page... (something similar to what's being done on SIStv)! :)

I love, love, love, love, love the premium content!!!!!!! However, there is just one tiny thing I'd like to see incorporated, if possible. I am old and have bad eyes, so I'm finding that I must get my face super, super close to the screen to see the tiny stickers and backgrounds before I purchase them! Wish we had a way to view our potential purchases in a larger format! :) Maybe you all could add an "enlarge" feature???

You won't hurt me if I bring up SIStv, again will you??? LOL!!! Well, my true love is Scrapblog... I do have a SIStv profile, but I don't use it often... so no need to worry! I do think they have a nice overall layout... love how their homepage is sectioned off... would love to see something similar here!

I think some of us would really love to see a better way to vote for our community challenges... Maybe something more automated with a click of a button! That would be ideal!

    What bugs me:

When someone leaves me a comment, I'll see that I have xx new comments, but I don't know exactly where they are. If they're not on my first page of scrapblogs, I'll need to scroll through each page to locate the comment(s). I think I have around 160 scrapblogs, so it's a slow process. I do receive email alerts, which helps... I think it would be nice if I didn't have to rely on email!

I'm sure I'll have more for you... thanks for listening!

I would also love to see the "Enlarge" feature for stickers, etc. Many times I have had to select the sticker, drag it on to my page and then find it really isn't what I want.

I would also like a way to separate the free content from the priced. I know it shows up when you move the cursor over it....but in the meantime it makes for SO many more pages to search through.

Thanks for asking for our input...this is a great site and you are all doing a great job!!

all that Karen said, plus, and this is something I have suggested since early times in Scrapblog:
    we need a REPLY button.
if someone writes something in my SB, I have to go to their page to answer, then other people dont have a clue what we are talking about.....
to me that's important, as it is the organising friends and the private message system...
the Forums should be more obvious in the SB page....
    and also:
(and this would be linked with my suggestion of making paid accounts, something like PRO members @ Flickr, and so many other places)
    the privacy settings:
we should be able to click on our friends here to invite to view....
I only have a few of my friends here's email addys....
then when one wants to publish by invite.... you need to go around asking email addresses, and some people, though they are keen on you viewing their SBs, don't want to post their email publicly.....
    :)
all these just of the top of my head, as it is (againnnnnnnnn!!!!! lol) so late here in London and I need sleeeeeeep!!!! lol
anyway, Mike, thanks for the attention,
    we love SB!!!!!
    Cynthia
  1.
Yes, I want all that was mentioned above & also what would be nice is to be able to get better printing for free cause when I print any of my SB pages they get cut off on each side by an inch so any stickers, backgrounds, etc. that is close to either edge is cut off! If that's even possible for Scrapblog to fix, I would be ecstatic! I am in the process of making a scrapbook for my daughter of her wedding, bachelorette party, etc. & that is something that would help me out tremendously! Thank you Scrapblog! You guys are the best! Love to you all!

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but I miss seeing weekly postings in the "blog"... the blog has been kind of quiet lately. Also, I'd like to see more user "profiles"! It's a great way to get to know the user community and showcase their work! :)

could we have a different type of love system. There are s/b that i love. Then there are the ones that are inspirational. You know the ones that are full of ideas that you had never thought of b4. It would be a great way to show case some amazing talent

    agree with you bubblee.
all these issues (I reckon) could be sorted if we could have a better registration system, and then the choice of having a paid account....
then people wouldn't be able to have *ghost* pages, security would increase...
I'm not sure if I'm clear here, but I'm talking about the people who don't make hardly any SBs, have no profile at all and keep trolling the site....

But there is a huge issue here, which I will write about with my feedback:
the fact that the main and most important thing is that the search is painfully slow.
I have found the way to search the new content fast and beautifully: by going to the *stores*.
In there it goes, it flows.
But if one ones to search on the *least credits* or free stuff...... well..... that si almost torture.
No matter how many new features you include, how gorgeous all is, if it takes an eternity to get images....
this does not only happen with stickers, but also with retrieving images from Photobucket, for example....

Don't get me wrong: I love the site, I'm devoted, is the best site in the whole net, but one cannot deny that issue.
This also extends to viewing other ppl's SBs....
Some (and this does not necessarily applies only to SBs with many pages, sometimes as much as 4 pages will present slowness)
take ages to do the buffering, and in some cases it shows the fisrt page, then stays so long to go into the other pages that I have to give up....

again: I know you guys do a fabulous job,
just pointing out what I experience.

    :)

    Sherry:
I reckon the problem with the printing you have has to do with your printer settings....
I print on A4 and , though prints a tiny bit smaller than A4 , the whole SB comes up....
but the resolution of the pictures I'm not sure it is the correct one....still, I have printed amazingly well...
I ll try to private message you my email, then I can try (I'm bad at this! lol) explain you how I do it....
I wallpapered a whole bit of my living room with Scrapblogs last year.....
    :)

Thank you Cynthia! I really appreciate the info cause I have to change all the pages I want to print & move all things away from the edges on both sides then re-publish then save then print for them to come out right! So, all help in this matter is greatly appreciated! Love ya for taking the time to help me on this!

when ever i try to print things they look kinda blurry and i can see the pixels...I had a book printed by you guys and it was absolutly perfect and beautiful. how come when i take things to be printed it doesnt work???? like i said its blurry and pixels. Is there anyway to fix that???? I would love to see more options on your printing, because i would totally pay to have you print them....I would love to see like 5x7 cards front and back etc. I love to make invitations, and save the date cards but not in a postcard form. i like front and back.
do you have any idea's on how to get things to export out of scrapblog with out them getting ruined???

I'd like to be able to mark stickers and backgrounds as favorites so that I don't have to go searching for them everytime I want to use them.

Maybe kind of like the Love It! button for the scrapblogs, you could do a Love It! button for the stickers and backgrounds! :)

    Hey Mike!

Here are a few more ideas for you!

I'm not sure if this is possible, or not, but it would be great if we could somehow place the scrapblogs we've created into folders... I'm thinking ahead to the day when I have 500+ scrapblogs! How on Earth will I ever find just one! :) LOL!!!!

It would be nice to show some statistics on our homepage or My Scrapblog page... here's an example:

    last login: 02/06/2009 07:55 AM
    total scrapblogs: 150
total comments: 5,000 (comments left for others) :)
    premium content credits available:

Also, is it possible to link our user names here with the user names on our main pages (My Scrapblog pages)... so, when we click on a user name here we're directed to the user's main page? If we're chatting with someone new here in the Forum and they've asked for help, or want us to see their new project, we must use the "search" feature to locate them. It would be nice if we could just click on their user name and go directly to their page... Just a thought!

    Hope this helps!

    Karen

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Norbert,

I have a few ideas for you!

The Carlos Award (after Carlos Garcia)
The Pink Award (SB's logo is a bold shade of pink)

I can have a go at designing something...or we could have a challenge, with all the creative, talented people here, I'm sure there will be lots to choose from!

Mike: what Karen is suggesting is great.
It would be great if we could link the Forums to the SB page and we do need a bit more structured way of organize our accounts.

Another good thing would be, in the Explore pages, would it be possible to have the nickname of the person who created the SB together with the title?

So many great ideas but I can't keep up with them!
I'd love to see a 'bullet pointed' (or numbered) list of these ideas maybe on the 'blog'. Perhaps then we could tick the features we would REALLY like in some kind of survey form- if that is possible.
  7.
Hi Everyone! Great ideas and tips as always. Thanks MikeGee for starting this and for caring what the scrapblog community thinks.

Now, sorry to be a downer but I miss the old way everything was organized by theme.
I probably will not be able to use scrapblog as much because it ALREADY took me forever to search for stickers and backgrounds I wanted to use.
now, I have to sift through paid content along with the free stuff, it's very frustrating.
Can you have a free tab at the top to make it easier?
It is especially frustrating because you see a nice element and it turns out you have to pay for it. This is my first time back in a long while and it was a frustrating experience looking for elements.
Thanks for listening to me gripe.

    Lucy

This is my first forum post! yay!

So I love love LOVE this site, but there are a few things that you could do to make me love it more!

    1. Someone said it before, but an easier way to get to the forums! I didn't even know there were forums until i went on the FAQ!

    2. I would really love to be able to see my scrapblogs on dvd! You could offer them by letting us download them, or by letting us order them! I make a lot of scrapblogs for my mom and her senior group at church, and while they appreciate a printed book, they would love to have something they could all have individually!

That's all I can think of right now.

    Thanks for reading!

    LUcy: (AlohaBailey)
you can search without getting the paid content...

in the top of the stickers/backgrounds, you have choices:

    click *Least Credits*

it works for me, but still....
the theme thing was much easier, I know, I asked for that to be back.

Though if we want something which we particularly know to be on a theme, you can do (like Karen well pointed)
    open new page> from a theme>
then it will show you the themes...

The problem I have found on this way is that, in the very old themes, like Urban Media or the very first themes, some of the stickers don't show up....

    Crueincute:

there is a way to put them on DVD, only the resolution I'm not sure will do, but you could try this:

when you are in the builder, click on the left hand side to EXPORT AS JPG (dont remember if it says File or what right now, I havent slept lol)
once you have them in your PC as JPG, you can use the Windows Movie Maker , collect as many as you want, then put some music on, do the transitions....
and it should work fine... I did it for YouTube, not sure it will work with a DVD because the resolution of the photos is shrunk in order to make the viewer better... they do keep the original resolution for printing, when you order with SB.....

    Anyway,
    hope this helps :)

    Cynthia

    For CruIncute and Mrs Peel
I agree with CruIncute that SBlog could offer a DVD option as well as a printed book, both from the high quality original pages.

Mrs Peel is correct: you go to File>export as JPG and you can save each page at 900x600 pixels, which is OK for computer screen or a TV screen. You can burn your own CD or produce a DVD with music, etc.,if you have such resources. (Free Movie Maker and PhotoStory don't burn to DVD directly I think)You can also just copy the files to memory cards or USB sticks or email them to your friends.

You can have a look at my tutorial below (nbarnich - Universal Scrapblog)to get a few ideas...

I'd like to be able to take some of my photos out of the builder as I build. It doesn't matter much for regular scrapblogs but when creating one that you have tons of photos.. to take some out of the builder and put them back into the "photo save" would be great!

    Hi Mike,

One thing is really bothering me: if I do "re-order pages" they will never stay the place I want it to put in as a new. Once one page just disappeared after re-ordering. Even after save and publish. It is a not a big problem, but I have to click on every page just to put it in place I re-ordered.

Thank you for you great work for us here,

    Girls:
don't get me wrong, but I think we should start another post with all these last few concerns.

this post Mike has done is not to do with the technicalities of the composing, not the builder, but the home page design, the general stuff on the pages itself, not the Scrapblogs or the builder...
but I think it would be a really good idea to start a thread with these last issues.

Hello to Everyone! I am new here and I am definetly already an addict. I just finished putting together a Navy SB for my daughter a Navy Girl of 8 years for the Second time! LOL

The first time I accidently deleted it. What I am suggesting is that for the edit/delete not to either be so close together OR when you click the delete button a pop up asks if you are sure.

I was so frustrated I wanted to cry when that happened and I didn't bother coming back for a couple of days until my heart could take it. Sorry for the long suggestion but it would be greatly helpful for future mistakes. Thank you in advance also for reading my suggestion.
  11.
I wish you could change your publish date they way you can do on a regular blog post. If I start a blog a while ago, but finish others in the meantime, my previously started, but later published blog sits in the order I started, buried beneath other scrapblogs. People like me who pop into a friend's page looking for something new (since I don't get notifications!) only see what is at the top. Also, if I wanted to say make a birthday card ahead of time, but wanted it to show up on a particular day, I can't! Consider allowing people to choose the day it posts.

Update Note: Oohh, did that sound grouchy...sorry...it is very early here. I really do appreciate everything this site has to offer.
