I was thinking that I would start a thread to where anybody can post any "helpful hints" they come upon that could ease a scrapblogger troubles.
When tagging a scrapblog, dont you wonder why you are always told, "no spaces" well if you havent figured it out already and wondering why you scrapblog doesnt show up when you click on the tag; its because you added a space.
I recently clicked on a tag and nothing showed up. I cleared my caches and still nothing...its because it had a "space".
Ex. "greys anatomy" with a space doesnt work but "greysanatomy" without the space works.
To get a quicker answer to a problem you have with an existing SBlog, always give its URL address in your discussion post here, so that Omar or a SBlog developer can check and give you an reply quickly.
I have seen a few people who have published but their SBs are black...
so I wrote in the comments that they should go edit, change something, save, then before clicking publish, press and hold the shift key until it finishes publishing... because I remembered reading it here, then when Sarita's one wouldn't publish, we did that and it worked... there is also Scrapaholic Sherry's{I'm writing the whole nickname because I saw we have a few Sherrys now!!!) solution to the missing pages, which is to go back, change something and then save, publish and go back to view, and then again for each page that didnt publish... that really works...
OK, here is a tip that may work for some, or may work sometimes and others dont...
but the last one I just published went through no problems at all... that could be very well due to the fact that the team is fixing things, but I also had saved each page every time I worked on it, even when I only made an insignificant change.... so, if you save every page whilst working on the builder, and then click no to publishing, it may publish better on the final time... as I said, it may not work, but worth giving it a go...
I have always saved every page after creating it and after any little change, I always save it too. Thats a very important tip and by doing that my scrapblogs have published correctly 98% of the time. :)
I looked at your link and it is set to private so we cant help you...try setting it to public if you dont mind or email meg@scrapblog.com, she is customer service.
Sorry, i thought you would be able to assess since u are the moderator though is private. i have set it to public but just without the photos (still cant fully load too). do take a look. thanks.
16march: problem solved. copied and paste everything again.
BACK TO PUBLISHING PROBLEMS: Below is a link to a SBlog I compiled from the replies of all of you who helped us with this problem on the forum: you know who you are! Now you can redirect people who need help to this link:
Hi All! The best way (and what I always do) to get your Scrapblogs to show up is to use the shift+publish trick, but then I close out the builder page and go back to the viewer and refresh the page until I see the correct version of your Scrapblog. It works about 99% of the time. -Another tip to being able to see your Scrapblog in the viewer is to make sure it's published! It's ok if you have it set to private as long as you publish. -Saving after a couple of minutes of work is always a good idea. You never know when your computer might have hiccups :( -I notice that Scrapblog tends to run better using Firefox for some reason. If you're having a lot of issues with the builder, switch to Firefox and see if that doesn't help to make things more stable. -Sometimes publishing gets stuck. If something's been publishing for more than 30 minutes, you're mot likely going lose whatever work you just did, unfortunately. Try closing out the builder and going back and publishing once more. -Remember to save and publish before printing! Also keep in mind that the version we print is the builder version. We're working hard to iron out these kinks! Keep up the great work everyone!
Here's my latest realization after trying to publish using all of these tips: Here's a new tip. To see which pages are causing trouble after you have published. Go to FILE-EXPORT AS JPG. If there is a problem page it more than likely won't show up in the downloader. If they are all there, but it still doesn't publish, download each page to your desktop and see which ones don't download. I got a message on a pop-up window that said something like - "Scrapblog page not available for download, make sure you published it." I published and published it and finally just made a new page and copy pasted the entire page to the blank page, moved to the proper spot and published it again.
here is something i learned whilst dealing with Sarita's baby books:
when you want to work old files, instead of scanning them into the computer, if you have a reasonably decent sized camera (anything from 4 megapixels will do, which even cel phones will do these days) take photos of the photo.... it will give you a bigger file, therefore more clarity, best results. take the photos in a very well lighted room, beware of shadows, try standing the photos up (recline them agaisnt something) and do not use flash (the glossy paper already will make some unwanted shadows but that's something to work on the positioning of the picture) hope it helps.
Ah! This brings back memories...nostalgia, when you vist us!!!
Used to do a lot of those in my younger years(before electricity) to rescue old photos. Reproducing photos or any artwork would provide a new negative. From there, I could print again on any size and do some retouching. Same principle, but much easier with digital. Tip: use a mini-tripod if you can or rest your camera on table or books to avoid shake. But Mrs Peel is correct: great idea and thank you!
you are so rigjt about the tripod, or resting the camera on the table.... you cannot imagine how many tries I went through until discovering the proper way.... not only I started taking pictures from the albums, with the plastic covers, but also I had them on my lap, so apart from my arthritic hands I had the bouncing lap LOL the lightr always proves to be best for me is my kitchen light, which is a fluorescent tube, so I stand the photos (after taking them out of the sleeves) on the ketle, then position myself sitting in a little bench I use to fill the washing machine (I have a perching chair which I use for cooking, my house is all equiped to make things easier...) and have to watch the shadows... I also had the job of separating the photos I had loose, because in those times we use to print 2 or 3 sets of each film, to send to my parents and to put up on the walls.... I have 3 boxes, like huge boxes, full of photos without dates.... but what made me go serious on this quest was a combination of many factors, the desive one being your photography SB Norbert.... because up till then I was kind of thinking of organising stuff online only.... together with all the inspiration and tutorials, when I read your suggestion to print as the prints will last for over 100 years...well.... it has brought not only more organization to my past, but also great times... I have so much pleasure in doing these books.... I'm now working on new photos, but should start getting on with the 4th year soon.... thing is, the photos for that year are all loose...it will be a bit of a quest, but I m sure I ll get there :)
Well done and good luck with your project. For a little extra work, you can still keep duplicates of your SBlob pages "on line" by sending them to Flickr,etc... Now you have the best of both worlds!
I was just here thinking, and composing, and I thought something that maybe of help for those of you who like (Like I do) the *real* feeling in your Scrapblogs. When adding a sticker, if you wanna give it the paper scrapping feeling, I use the shadows. But the shadow will only go one way or another, so, to make it more tridiomensional feel, I copy and paste the sticker, and each layer will have a different shadow angle, until it seems like it's actually glued to the screen.... not sure if it's very clear, but I ve been using this for a couple of weeks, and I'm loving the look! :)
I was thinking about your photographing vs scanning concept. Most scanners do have the option of scanning at a higher resolution. When I know that I will want to use the picture in a larger format, I choose a higher resolution. The only problem being the size of the file. I haven't liked the way older pictures have always come out when photographing them, although without a scanner it is a good alternative.
Remark: scanner vs photograph. I have made hundreds of rerpo work as well as scans in the past and both work well, and both can be taken in high definition. My scanner tend to pick up the structure of the scanned paper and moire patterns(can be avoided) but photos are "softer". Now you have the choice!
I have a question on using scanned pictures. I scanned several of my old pictures. I had read this thread, and tried taking a picture of them instead, but even with a tripod, I couldn't get them to focus right. Anyway, I have them uploaded to S.B. and now am having problems with my 12 page S.B. taking a long time to load in builder. Sometimes it takes a long time to load the whole s.b.. Mostly, once the whole s.b. says it's done loading in builder, if I click on a page with the scanned photos, it shows the page, but sits there saying "transferring data from scrapblog" and will sit there for over an hour. I can edit, but I can tell the computer is several steps behind me in applying clicks. Could it be the scanned photos that are slowing things down? Has anyone else noticed any problems like that? Pages with my digital photos were done first and I didn't have any problems.
Reggie, almost all my photos used in my SB's were scanned and I don't have problems like yours. Once or twice my SB has been slow to load in the builder, but it was only a momentary glitch. So I don't think the scanned photos are causing the problem. I don't have any ideas about what could be the problem, but hopefully someone can figure it out for you. Maybe if you post a link to the SB someone on the team can check it for you.
Thanks for answering. I had started a separate discussion yesterday about my builder loading slow. I put a link on there this morning, but no one has answered yet. After this post, I noticed that several of my pages that load quickly have scanned photos, so I figured that wasn't the problem.
